What is special and different from other dog breeds is the originality of the Tibetan Mastiff from its pure genome. They are considered one of the many lords of the races today, as their strength surpasses that of wolves, tigers, and other carnivores.
Around 1,500 years ago, Tibetan Mastiffs were divided into two types. One type is usually kept in the temple as a guard animal, the other is cared for and trained by the people to graze cattle and wild animal people.
The first dog was exported to foreign countries in 1847. They were brought to Europe. From the moment they stepped foot on land, they immediately attracted attention and curiosity from the indigenous people for their enormous size and incredible strength.
Nearly a century later, King Edward VII continued to import 2 Tibetan clams into the country and they were popularly bred at the time.
Dogs in Europe are descended from the ancient Tibetan Mastiff. However, purebred individuals can only be found in Tibet, their homeland.
Due to the beauty and strength of this breed, humans quickly crossed them with other breeds. Then their number increased rapidly and they no longer became as rare as before.
Characteristics of the Tibetan Mastiff
The Tibetan Mastiff can be classified as the largest dog breed in the world with a whopping height of about 70 80 cm. His weight also reached a record in world dog breeds from 70 to 110 kg.
The thick coat has 2 layers that cover the body to minimize the effects of cold weather on the plateau. It doesn’t matter how harsh the weather is.
Tibetan clams can still adapt as quickly as possible. The main color of its fur is jet black with a copper-colored cavity on the muzzle and paws, reddish-brown, orange, gray… The long bristly mane looks like a lion.

Some studies have shown that a Tibetan Mastiff’s bite is as strong as a lion’s bite force.

Loyalty to an owner is perhaps the Tibetan Mastiff’s greatest personality trait. They are loyal and protective of a single breeder.

They are very alert and especially do not like strangers, they are not as friendly as other breeds. When the owner is in danger, no one can stop the wrath of a Tibetan Mastiff.

How to care for the Tibetan Mastiff?
This is a dog with a unique personality and survival instinct, so if you are not a knowledgeable and mentally strong person, it will be difficult to breed a Tibetan Mastiff.
They also don’t like tight spaces. Running is the survival instinct of this breed. They don’t like being chained very much and are also strong enough to break the chain to get out.
Tibetan Mastiff Diet
The Tibetan Mastiff is a large dog, so without proper care and nutrition, it will not be able to fully develop physically. They need to follow a strict diet and provide them with all the vitamins and nutrients they need.
- The first 2-4 months they need to eat a lot of lean meat and dry food divided into 3 meals.
- The 5-10 month old dog is in the adult stage, you need to add more nutrition and increase the diet, reduce 1 food. Only for breakfast and dinner. It remains to add more animal organs, duck eggs… combined with dry dog food. To increase calcium and train jaw muscles, use pork tube bone for dogs.
- Adult mastiffs maintain the same number of meals, increase diet and nutrients. This stage needs more calcium, so it is advisable to add bones, chicken neck… Be careful with cooking and not eating leftovers.

- To breed the Tibetan Mastiff, you need to prepare a cage area large enough for them to run, jump, and exercise. Keep in mind that this should be a place with a cool climate, avoiding the heat that can easily cause heat stroke in dogs.

- Exercise your dog for 20-30 minutes a day with exercises like running tire bites. Essential during its development.
