Nebraska Football's 2026 Commitment Unravels
In a recent development, a talented offensive lineman has withdrawn his commitment to Nebraska football, just five months after initially pledging his support. This unexpected turn of events has left the program in a state of flux.
Leon Noil Jr., a highly-rated 2026 inside offensive lineman, has decommitted from the Cornhuskers. He had previously committed to Nebraska in June, marking a significant addition to their recruiting class. Noil, standing at 6-foot-5, was a three-star prospect according to 247Sports Composite, ranked as the No. 924 overall prospect, No. 74 inside offensive lineman, and No. 29 player in Louisiana.
Before committing to Nebraska, Noil had been considering Baylor and Mississippi State as his top choices. His offer list also included prestigious institutions such as Houston, UCF, Missouri, and Ole Miss. The loss of Noil's commitment is a setback for the program, especially considering the already shaky foundation of the 2026 class.
Nebraska now has only 10 commitments for the 2026 class, led by four-star cornerback Danny Odem and four-star offensive tackle Claude Mpouma. The remaining commits, all rated as three-stars, include wide receiver Nalin Scott, wide receiver Larry Miles, tight end Luke Sorensen, running back Jamal Rule, inside offensive lineman Hayden Ainsworth, offensive tackle Rex Waterman, linebacker Jase Reynolds, and quarterback Dayton Raiola.
The recent decommitment of Noil comes on the heels of Odem's decision to shut down his recruitment, further solidifying the top of the class. This development has undoubtedly impacted the team's standing in the Big Ten Conference and national rankings, as the 2026 class was already ranked near the bottom.
According to 247Sports Composite, Nebraska is now ranked No. 91 in the nation, and Rivals Industry Ranking places them at 73. Both rankings place NU at the bottom of the Big Ten. However, the 2027 class offers some solace, as it is considered one of the best in the country.
The 247Sports Composite ranks Nebraska No. 5, behind Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. The Rivals Industry Ranking places NU in the same spot, trailing Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. This strong 2027 class may help mitigate the impact of the 2026 decommitment.
